Leaking coolant

Post by K4irk »

My 1990 B2 is leaking coolant and I think I have determined it is coming from the timing cover. At first I suspected a bad water pump but it is dripping from behind the water pump. Has anyone had experience a) using stop leak or b) removing and resealing the timing cover? A very experienced mechanic friend of mine suggested the stop leak but wanted to know if others have tried it.

Thank you

I don’t think the timing gear area should have coolant in it— just oil? Maybe there’s a head leaking coolant into the oil as well. Not sure, but either way you’ll have to pull all of that off the front of the engine. Perhaps look into the idea of coolant contamination in the timing cover and see what’s up.

Good luck!
