FM145 and FM146 Interchangeable?

Post by madmax »

So you guys have been a great help with my axle swap so i decided i would ask you guys my transmissions question.

My Bronco has a FM146 in it and it has started making horrible bearing noise. At first we thought it was the throw out bearing so i put in a new clutch, throw out bearing/slave cylinder and resurfaced the flywheel. Still making the horrible bearing noise.

So my friend donated a FM145 in perfect shape to me. It has no bellhousing on it or transfer case, so its just the transmission itself.

My question is, can i take the bellhousing off of my FM146 and put it on the FM145 with the slave cylinder and throw out bearing from my FM146? and it work?

I did but I went the other way 145 t0 146 you will also need the plate take out the four stud that what I did. You will have to move the crossmember for the trans the holes should be there I just cut it lose and bolted it. then you come to the drive lines if you have actcess to the ones that went to the bronco that had the 145 get them > Ok I have read you can swap them I did but did not like the looks But I had a 89 sitting next to in so I took them and that is what I did hope it will help.

your gonna need the 145 drive shafts too(the 145 is shorter),gotta move the crossmember forward, the t-case will work, not sure on the slave, the plate is different on the floor where the shifter comes through
