New Bronco II Owner

Post by msorensen »

Been looking around here for a bit for a little fixer upper Ford, and seems I found the one I have been looking for. Thought I would ask some people with some knowledge about these, what are some things to check first, and also needed a little help.
Bought her for a couple hundred dollars, figured if I can't get it running at least I have the tires. Anyways I know it was running and driving a month ago as I bought it from a friend. He thought it needed a fuel pump as it quit firing. He replaced this and yet nothing still. I thought that maybe this could be an inertia switch problem, and to my surprise when I looked under the carpet I find the wire is taped up and not connected the inertia switch. The guy I bought it from said he never messed with that so I am assuming that it was working without being plugged in. I did reconnect to see if it would fire, and still not luck. Any advice would be helpful.

88 Bronco II
2.9 5 speed

Do you hear the fuel pump run when you turn on the key? Do you have fuel pressure?
I'm not sure if the '88 has one or two fuel pumps. Dave would know.

it has 2, does it have spark? if it has spark, spray something flamable thur the intake and see if it fires, that it will tell you if it's fuel. someone probaly jumped the inertia switch which isn't a good thing cause if you get in a wreck the pumps won't shut off.
