Brake Drums

Post by djadjective »

So my rear driver side brake shoes wore out finally, I put on a new set tonight with new springs and an adjuster kit. But, I cant seem to get the drum to slide over the shoes. I turned the adjuster all the way in and have checked my spring placement with any diagrams I have, but still cant seem to get the shoes compressed enough. It looks like the front shoe is sitting slightly higher than the back one. Anything I need to check again?

Make sure the shoes are seated on the wheel cylinder in the right spot. They should both be the same height.

It turns out, the brake cable was old and wasn't letting the shoes retract all the way in. So, not wanting to screw around with the brake cable yet, I just removed the parking brake fork and the drum slid right on.
