If the trans is pissing out the front behind the converter you are about 1 step from failure.
I assume your talking about the famous A4LD! If this is correct then this is what is happening.
The A4LD had a problem with the bell housing and front pump and seal... The quick explanation is due to design details and manufacturing procedures. basically if the front bushing in the trans is worn it allows oil to get behind the oil seal and literary push the seal right out of the trans. Also if the bushing is worn out the neck of the torque converter will wobble slightly causing accelerated wear on the front seal making the problem worse.
The "Fix" is not a backyard or front yard fix. The trans is pulled and you have to have some machining done on the bell housing but it requires special setup and tooling to do. There use to be quite a few shops around that could do this but they are a numbered few that can do this right.
Summary: I am just generalizing above there is more to the fix but I would have to go find my papers and review them to get all the details. Basically replace the trans with a C4 or go with a stick or find a "GOOD" trans shop. Find one and explain the problem to them. If they know their stuff they will know exactally what will need to be done. It might be pricey but once done and some other mods and the A4LD could be as good a trans or better than a C4 and you will have OD.
