my 87 when i got it would sit there and rev back and forth up to 2000 or so until it warmed up. when i swapped the motor i had noticed that when the guy before me welded the nerf bars on, he melted a vaccuum line going to the gas tank. i put a rubber hose with 2 hose clamps and it idles just fine from startup.

so the hose goes from the engine back to the tank
is it just a black rubber hose?

Recently mine was idleing at 1500-2000 RPM so I took the AIC and the throttle body off and cleaned them. They were both filthy and the AIC had a small twig in it. Two weeks before I went through a mud bog and so much mud got on my air filter that the next time I started it, the filter just riped in half because it wouldn't flow any air. Just something to think about or check.
