At the moment I have 2 Bronco II's, one of which I am considering doing a 302 conversion to. The candidate for the conversion is an '84 4x4 2.8 Bronco II with a 5 speed. It is currently not running and I really don't want to put any money into the existing 2.8 setup. It has been sitting for some 7 years but is in great cosmetic shape outside (garaged). I have researched this for quite some time and still have some questions. I know that my existing 5 speed cannot handle V8 power, that being said I am unsure of the transfer case in my truck, I don't know what type it is and would love to know how to identify it. What I'm driving at is:
A: Can someone tell me what type of transfer case is in my Bronco II based off of year and power train config?
B: What would be my best bet for a manual transmission configuration? I would prefer a 5 speed if possible ( considering a 5 speed from a Mustang if that will work)
C: If my transfer case will work what adapter will I need to mate it to the 5 speed.
D: Regarding the front and rear axles, would it be ok to use the stock ones for now? I know the original rear end blew out some time ago and was replaced I will need to look and see what is in it now. I know for sure it is not the same type that was originally in it.
Overall the article on the front page was great for shedding some light on what I will be getting myself into, it just happened to leave me with some nagging questions I have been unable to answer for myself so any help is appreciated.
A few 302 swap questions.

Borg Warner 1350. They are decent transfer cases that can survive behind a V8. However if you are buying an adapter, there are better options out there.JRR1285 wrote: A: Can someone tell me what type of transfer case is in my Bronco II based off of year and power train config?
The mustang T-5 isn't really a good option. Adapting a transfercase to it is very expensive, and the gear ratios are not good. The ZF-5 is a decent 5 speed ford tranny. Then there are the NV4500 and NV3550 or something like that. But still those are hard to find and expensive.JRR1285 wrote: B: What would be my best bet for a manual transmission configuration? If you are set on having a manual transmission, it's hard to beat the NP435. It's a 4 speed with a granny low.

As mentioned above, if you have to buy an adapter, might as well research transfer cases and get the one that you want and works best with your transmission selection.
I ran my stock rear end for awhile. If you go easy, there's no reason you stock axle won't hold up for awhile. Definately plan on swapping them out though.JRR1285 wrote: D: Regarding the front and rear axles, would it be ok to use the stock ones for now?
