What fits what?
Hello gang! I am new to the Bronco II world and have found myself trapped! It all stated with a wrecked '90 II. As I started to search parts, I have ended up with 6 Bronco IIs in my yard. (84, 84, 86, 87, 87, 90) Five are just too nice to part out so I am fixing them. (the 90 and two 87s are all done and family members drive them daily!) Question is....Will the trannys, clutch ect fit on both the 2.8 and 2.9 so I can mix and match? Next question...I have an 86 2x4 with a new engine and great body. I also have an 84 4x4 with bad body and tired engine but good running gear. My goal is to take all of this and make one good rig. Which way should I go? Switch the engine from the 86 to 84 then the body from 86 to 84 or keep the engine in the 86 and add the tranny, trans case and front axle & rear end from 84 to the 86? Thanks, Bill

Honesty for your last problem, if you are up to it go for the tranny and all the other stuff. If you are really good with wiring and have the time then go for the body change. As for the 2.8 tranny on a 2.9 I think they will only because the 2.9 is a little modified 2.8. Good luck!

I just crawled underneath the 1984 and the frame looks good and front end looks like it was recently rebushed. I have done the body switch a couple of times in the past with pick ups so I guess that is the way I will go! The 84 will get the 2.9 and the 1986 body! Thanks for the help and the tranny info!

That is a good point..If the rear end ratio on the 2x4 is the same as the front of the 4x4 then all that would need to be changed is the front end, trans and transfer case. The 2x4 has the dummie transfer case so I suppose that the mounting hardware for the stuff is there already. A quick notch in the floorboards for the shifter, wire up the indicator lights and head for the mud and snow! I was not looking forward to plumming the fuel lines and in-tank pump anyway Thanks guys!
