Evasive Maneuvers in the EB

Post by Nobody »

It's nice and foggy and freezing this morning, which means black ice. I was negotiating a sharp bend in the road and there was an oncoming vehicle. I was thinking to myself that it would suck if that guy smashed into me, WHEN SURE AS SHIT the other car didn't even begin to turn.

The only two vehicles in the county, and as fate would have it, our trajectories were plotted for collision! I was in a real fine predicament, as I was negotiating a lefthand turn, and the only way to avoid collision was to turn right......solid ice, armstrong steering, I dare not touch the manual 4 wheel drum brakes!

In an instant, I decided to go for it. I yanked the wheel to right and the EB darted to the right like it was on rails, buying enough room to avoid the head-on. Now he was headed for my auxilary fuel tank under my seat, and I had inches of road left!  I whipped the wheel back to the left, I could see his front tires folded over to the right and locked up as he continued on his path for collision. Once again the Bronco darted to the left. As if in slow-mo, I watched the impact zone move to the rear of the bronco.

At the point of impact everything jumped to full speed, I looked in my mirror and saw the other vehicle come to rest in my lane. Whew....that was a close one!

glad to hear you zigged and zagged corectly.

Glad to hear that your OK. Did he hit the EB at all? or just at the back. Anyhow, just glad it wasn't head on. There are so many wrecks and slide offs around Indianpolis tonight because of the snow. Tow trucks will be busy for quite a while.
Can't think of anything witty, intelligent, or cool to say...guess I'm just stupid.

Nice story.
Damned Mt. Vernions. In Bellingham we have Honda's, VW's, Outbacks, and hippies on bicycles. All of which are fun to run over.

Glad you made it out of that one.

What does it take for someone to learn not to hit the breaks going into a corner and definitely not when you're already in a skid..
