Again, what year BII? What size and where was the radiator located? What engine mounts were you using?FatMan wrote:that rad wont cool a V8? or theres no room for it? the small copper rad i had in my other b2 kept the 351c pretty cool. i would imagen that the 4.0 rad would do just fine....
As I said before the core support is different on the 84 and the radiator mounting is different than the is used on the 4.0 radiator. The 4.0 or later BII radiator is not a bolt in swap in the 84.
Where did you get your 4.0 radiator? I would like to know the manufacture and part number. The 4.0 I bought new is a 2 core. That is all I can find listed for the 4.0. The cores are much deeper and it seems the 4.0 radiator (2 core aluminum and plastic) is a tad deeper over all than the 3 core that was used in the 84.
I don't think it would fit very well with a V8.
As for cooling, maybe. There is a formula for calculating how much HP a radiator can cool. Before I bought mine, I spoke with a tech at Griffin and he said it was good to about 400HP, but that's probably with optimal air flow. It's that off idle wheelin that will get you.
The number one problem I see with V8 conversions, on all platforms is overheating. I can't count the number of times I've passed a V8 toyota or Heep on the trail with steam coming out of the hood

i get what your saying about the rad that i have wont fit but anything can be made to fit im just saying i think the 91-94 xploder rads can cool a small block v8. i have'nt tried it but i dont see why it would'nt.......... okay maybe i see your point. i just looked a little closer and the xploder rad is a wide ass 2 core. opps!!! my bad carry on.. get the 3 core like Nobody has.Happy_Jack wrote:Again, what year BII? the one i was using in my old truck was out of a cougar from the 70's old style tank's on top and bottom but the cool thing about it is it fit right in between the hole of the core support. it would cool a small block no problem. the only thing i would have done different was to have the filler neck moved toward the engine so i would'nt have to cut so much of the top side of the core support.

Darker than your average wheeler!!!!
It looks like it fits nice, but getting the cap off looks like a finger-cutter!
Nobody: do you have any pics of your Griffin?
Electric fan or regular?
I still have a little time. Hopefully dropping the engine and tranny in this week, I still need to bolt everything down, hook up drivelines, and put engine stuff on: power steering, carb, alternator. Then hook up electrical. Then it's a radiator, down to the shop for exhaust, and some wheels and tires. Sounds so easy...

Lots of pics here.

These are more recent. I moved the radiator forward a bit so I could run a different fan.
