Funky tranny rear cone

Post by bartmantom »

well I crawled under one of the donor vehicles (1973 Ford RV chassis I bought for $10.50 on ebay :tongue2: ) today and started to pull the drive line, rear end (Dana 60 with 3.73 gears), when I started on the tranny I notice it looked a little funny, the driveline yoke doesn't slide off it has a nut holding it on. the rear cone looks ?? bulky?? :wtf: (I'll post pics tomarrow). so what the heck could it be? it's supposed to be a C4, and it looks like one except the rear cone and driveline yoke are wierd!!

Wow, that thing needs a good cleaning. Seeing that it is an RV, I would say it is most likely a C6, a c4 would come apart in an RV, and it looks like the tailshaft you have is longer than the tailshaft on the C4 rangerdave showed. Look at the bellhousing, it is removable on a C4, but integral with the housing on the C6 (nonremovable).

well I Don't know what the heck, the C4 to dana 20 adapter I have will bolt onto the back of the tranny. It even looks like the output shaft on the tranny is the correct length, except it's threaded on the end. the dana 20 looks like the spud shaft has room to accomidate the threaded portion but don't know for sure.

output shaft has 28 splines, it's a 73 Ford RV. I thinkg it may have been something like a E-350 or something.
