Running rich

Post by Marque »

When I am driving the engine will run just fine. Without warning black smoke starts coming from the exhaust and the engine is running unbelievably rich. The car slows down and seems to miss also. I have had the car in the shop reapetedly and no one seems able to solve the problem.

Sounds like the EGR vavle may have gone caputes. Or some other kind of major vacuum leak.

I had the same sort of symptoms and it turned out that the fuel pressure regulator was the problem.

honestly there is no way for use to say what it is unless we get more info. if the check engine light is on it will narrow it down to certain sensors. also if the check engine light is on you can run to the parts house and have the codes read for free and find out what the problem is. if there is no check engine light trouble shooting is a little more difficult. to try to throw things out as suggestions with the info we have would be a shot in the dark at best.
