My freind just gave me his bronco II it is an 1985 eddie baure eddition it has a 2.8,2.9 im not sure, and a 5 speed, 4x4. And i wanted to make it a 4x4 monster should i keep the 2.8 i heard horror stories about the v6 and the 5-speeds from experience can you tell if its worth keeping and were could i get performance parts, thanks.

I always advise against spending money on performance parts. It's stupid to dump money into a crappy engine. You'll be time money and HP ahead to drop in a 4.0L from an exploder or ranger.

The 4.0 will bolt to the trans but it will eat it up. I ran the 2.8 with 4:11 gears and 34" buckshots and was still able to eat up all the axle parts and other drivetrain. I like the 2.8 over the 2.9 but theat is my personal preference. It was still enough to impress people by going where they said I couldn't go and with the Mallory dist. the 7000 rpm rev were pretty cool too. I put an open element air filter on and put in a 2 1/4 inch exhaust with a flo pro muffler. No I wasn't breaking any 1/4 mile times nor was I running 5th gear. But that isn't what it was intended for. :redneck:
