Driveshaft issues

Post by 89BII »

I have an '89 Bronco II, 2wd with a 5 speed. The driveshaft in it has cv joints at both ends. Well.........the rear one is going bad (big news huh!) This is #2! I cannot find a reasonably priced replacement but I have an '85 BII parts truck with a stick. The driveshaft in it is 3 times the diameter, and has U-joints(3). Will bolt to the rear end, but not the (fake) transfer case in my 89.
NOW, the question.........Has anybody replaced the yolk from one of these cases? I think if I install the 85 yoke into my 89 case, I'll be good to go. Any clue what size the nut is holding the yoke? I believe it is metric because I couldn't fit a 1", 1 1/16" 1 1/8" or a 1 1/4" socket on the nut!!
Any help is appreciated.

I think there's a good chance the yolks will interchange. Not sure on the socket size, but you might need a thin wall socket.

Nut

Post by tractor_mike »

If this is a Borg-warner 13-59 in-line transfer case it's a 30MM nut

What do you consider a Reasonably Priced replacement? Do you want the complete shaft flange to flange or just the CV Joints. Do you want them used, new or rebuilt?.
Can't help with the flange.

Driveshaft issues-PARTS TRUCK

Post by 89BII »

Okay, I temporarily fixed it. I rebuilt the CV driveshaft using parts from an automatic driveshaft. Was actually pretty easy to do.
I have a u-joint shaft and need to change the yolk to fit it.
As for the parts truck, anything I do not use is for sale. I need the spring brackets, fuel tank and windshield.
Send me a want list at icangitit@earthlink.net
