Heater Core replacement

Post by ran429 »

How hard is it to remove and reinstall a heater core in an 84 B-II ?

Yesterday we were heading down 167 in auburn (near Emerald Downs) and everything was putting fine. A short second later BOOM ! FOG ! Smoke Billowing out every concievable hole in the dashboard and HOLY SHYITE ! :wtf: My GOD IM GOING TO DIE! (wife was driving)
Managed to get it into the Pacific gas station off ellingson and found the water, Filled it and ran with heater off (Steam still coming out of holes) Man what a hassle.

I pulled the hoses off the core and spliced them together so we wouldnt be fogged out on the return trip from Bonney lake.

Now I have to figure out how hard it will be to replace the heater core, I purchased a manual but how it grew feet and dissapeared is beyond me.

Been a long time since Ive been here, So howdy to all !

yep , real easy !
loosen 5 screws and drop cover on floorboard.
loosen 2 hoseclamps, pull off hoses.
push core hose tubes with finger and let it drop on floorboard next to cover.
go around to passenger door and grab core, throwing it across the yard to relieve frustration if any.
stuff new one up into hole, Put cover back on.
reclamp the hoses, fill coolant level to top of radiator.
Let warm up and fill radiator as needed until level stays at bottom of filler rim.

35 minutes total.

I think the heater core is the only part I've never had to replace on my bronco
