Sick Bronco

Post by papasBronco »

Don't know what to do? :hmmm:

My Grandpa gave me a 87 bronco II and Boy, does it run like shiz...

Here's what it does
-the idle surges , when it decides to idle
-if motor is raced up it backfires through the intake
-no power HP at all top speed of the rig is 15mph

Is it a sensor?, timing?, or fuel relate? I have know clue what to do. It has good compression (145-150)...

pull codes, they will tell you what is wrong. I would think the ignition mod on the side of the distributer but thats just me. you can take it off and take it to autozone to have it checked. just make sure they check it 2-3 times because they need to warm up before they will test bad sometimes.

I'd definately start by checking the ignition timing, and we can work from there.

I would definately start with timing

What do you have to do in order to pull the codes?
This the first ford I've been around so I don't know anything about them.

Autozone can read codes for free for you. go to Autozone.com and find the one nearest you.

but if you plan to have your bronco for awhile... you might as well just buy one for 26 bucks...it is well worth it not to mention if it won't start you can't get it to autozone in the future
