How to remove ignition cylinder when won't get to RUN

Post by Deeb_Bronco »

I need your advice to help change a stuck ignition cylinder. The Bronco II ignition key will move from Accessory mode enough to start the engine but not get to the RUN position where it it sticks in that position. So I've got the top and bottom of the steering column off to see and a new ignition cylinder. The B2 has tilt wheel. The existing ignition cylinder (with the key stuck inside as I can't remove it) won't come laterally out of the steering column frame. I can press the small silver button on the bottom of the existing ignition cylinder in almost all the say but not fully as it won't go to RUN. The existing ignition cylinder is jammed in. What can I do to get it out? Can or should I drill out a bit of the silver button nub on the bottom of the ignition cylinder or what do you suggest to get the stuck cylinder out of the column?

I've drilled a couple of theses old fords and that's exactly what your gonna have to do . I was lucky with the one i did have the key for and i turned it with channel locks and turned it enough to release . If you end up drilling stop when you get to the brass insert with teeth on it you will need it for the new keylock .
