1st B2 Build

Post by Mer925 »

Hey guys I'm just about to acquire an '84 4x4 and it will be my first B2 build and my first 4x4 build in a few years. My main question getting into this, is I see that the 4.0 is by far the easiest swap, and pretty close to a bolt in motor for this truck. My main concern is if there is a certain make/mdl of ford I should look for that will either require the least amount of custom fab, or if its worth the extra work, the most potential for the truck. Also I would love to switch this to a manual since ill be banging this thing around in the mountains. Any help or tips appreciated guys
Thanks!

I'd find a manual 4.o explo6
Ror ranger from up till 95 and swap entire Driveline.

That will give you an 8.8 rear a Dana 35 front and everything you need to swap the engine.

But that's just my opinion I'm sure others will differ

Would the year range of pre 95 go for the explorer as well? I would imagine so since it seems they switched the body style around 96

Yes they went with a traditional independent suspension up front after that, which will be useless for your bii.

So 2 issues, pretty simple. Seems the water pump is bad and leaking through weep hole, and the reason the original owner er couldn't start it is because the heavy gauge from the relay to the starter was ripped. Motor spins freely so now time to drop the tank and replace all the fuel lines and try to fire it up
