Tach gauge loves to dance ??

Post by cdmiller »

The rpm gauge on my 89 B2 jumps all over the place. While sitting in the driveway,in park, just idleing the rpms go up to 4 or more.Sometimes while driving it will settle down to normal, but not often. The speedo jumps a little too,but not as much.
Any help is appreciated.

You might check the instrument panel voltage regulator. They are usually mounted to the back of the instrument Panel. It supplies a solid steady reference voltage for the instruments. When the instruments go wonky look at this item first! BTW: Wonky really is a word. My 35 year old daughter swears it is.
