oil pan sensor?
oil pan sensor?
Learning as I go.....got the oil pan cleaned up and getting ready to install with new gasket, and started wondering what the sensor on the side of the pan is for, and if it's supposed to be plugged into something?
Re: oil pan sensor?
my BII is an 87 2.9L if that matters here....
Re: oil pan sensor?
yeah the sensor on it connects to part of the harness
Re: oil pan sensor?
it has a single pole wire on it. always a good idea to install the pan with it not install so you don't bend or break the inside float part

Thanks all....any idea where the wire harness would connect to?
I got this BII last year and it never had anything connected to this sensor.

Re: oil pan sensor?
some didn't come with the wire. when it's working a low oil lite comes on in the dash when it's about 2qts low. if nobody tells you before tomorrow. I 'll look at mine and post
Re: oil pan sensor?
Found out yesterday the wire that connects to the low oil sensor comes off the same wiring harness that connects to the knock sensor.
Re: oil pan sensor?
but as we found out yesterday, not all B2's have a knock sensor
Re: oil pan sensor?
True that! ha ha!
Re: oil pan sensor?

Re: oil pan sensor?
I just put a differant 2.9 in mine cuz of a ticking noise and mine was broken. Seems just fine to me I was just going to fix it later when I have the time and money.

Re: oil pan sensor?
It is possible to get the pan off without pulling motor. but it helps if you have small hands. take the distributor cap off and raise the motor in truck. lift as far as you can without damaging the distributor. take the pan loose and let it hang. the oil pump pick up tube has to come off inside the pan before the pan will come out.
Re: oil pan sensor?
Yea Kirkland has it right....it just takes time and patience....getting the oil pump pick up tube in and out is a pain.
It helped that I had the top half of my engine off when I did it...and also the radiator and fan were out which frees up room too because I pulled the pan out from the front. Not gonna lie, it was frustrating at times.
I removed the motor mount nuts and lifted the engine up, putting 2x4 blocks between the engine and motor mounts to keep it up there while I worked.
