stock ride height
Re: stock ride height
that was only on explorers where they teamed up with ford. Not Bronco II's And if you remember they didnt have that problem until they stopped making bronco II's all together. The reason the tires were blowing up was they told firestone to try to make a tire that will sutain a low PSI rating. then they put on there placard inflate to 25 psi which made the tires heat up a lot and that caused them to blow out. so you can listen to your tire placrd if it says above 30 PSI.

Over inflating radial tires will wear the tires bald in the middle but not at the max tire pressure. I've run tires at the max for 40 years and haven't had problems with uneven wear. The only exceptions might be if all the miles were driven in temperatures in the hundreds as pressure will go up. Bias tires will wear more in the middle at max pressure but even that is minimun.Ranger Dave wrote:whats on the tire is for maxium load. passengers and cargo. and at 45lbs the tires will be Bald in the middle
Tire pressure should always be checked cold and some increase is expected. If you travel a lot from the hot desert to the cooler mountains its best to set the pressure slightly less then the max. Also the max pressure greatly reduces traction in the rain and even more in snow. I will drop the pressure in the winter for better traction and in the hotest part of the summer to prevent over inflation at high temperatures.

I got 3 sets of the Firestone Wilderness tires while I worked for Ford (20 years, started in 84’). I took all the brand new spares (couldn’t see throwing them away). I ran them at 30PSI on my B2 and only had 2 come apart out of all of them. It was a bonding issue and lower PSI problem. The 2 that came apart would lose the tread but the core would keep air. I Nascared a rear fender but didn't buy tires for 3 sets.

Re: stock ride height
My origional question was about ride height, shocks, and tires. Tire size affects height and air pressure affects height.Ranger Dave wrote:i thought this tread was about ride height

One thing I do with my 00 GMC Jimmy is run nitrogen in my tires. I had a local tire shop put it in for me, and the pressure rarely ever changes. There is no condensation from moisture from water.
A lot of race teams run nitrogen, and it seems to work for them. You might ought to check it out.
Hope this helps ya.

I know all of NASCAR runs nitrogen but I never thought about it for my use. It sounds expensive.RakerBill60 wrote:One thing I do with my 00 GMC Jimmy is run nitrogen in my tires. Re: stock ride height
I received the air shocks I ordered for the Bronco II. They don't replace the standard shocks but are an addition to them. They look more like air bags rather than shocks. Currently the height at the wheel well is 29 1/2 inches and I will increase it to 31 inches.
The shocks I bought are designed to help carry weight and still have an even ride but also to help out on sagging leaf springs. It will be mid week before I get them on and I'll let everyone know how it goes and how they work out.
