OBD1 connection

Post by 303lithgow »

Where is the OBD1 connection on 86 and 90 B2's? I bought a scan tool but can't find the connections. I found it on the 02 Crown Vic and it worked great. Had the 'check engine light' out in seconds. The code was out of gas which wasn't true.

the crown vic being a 2002 would have the obd2 connector which was standardized as of 1996. pre 96 vehicles can have it anywhere, any shape, and give out only as much info as the company wants. you wil most likely have to take it into a dealer to have it scanned otherwise you will have to buy an adapter for your scanner.

hope this helps

I have the OBD2 which will fit any car/truck after 1996 and the OBD1 heads for Ford, GM, Chrystler, and Toyota. From what I've read the years 1994 and 95 are mixed between the OBD1 and OBD2.

if you have the right connecter then you should be set. the connector has 2 small pins toward the outside and 2 larger ones on the inside. (small pin, large pin, large pin, small pin) then it will have one on a separate wire right near it. this is a power wire that should also connect into your adapter. the obd connector on mine is right beside my power distribution box

Found it but haven't had the time to check it.
