A4LD reverse and overdrive not working
A4LD reverse and overdrive not working
ok another tranny question.
When I bought the 88 BR2 with an A4LD in it I was told that reverse had gone out of it.
He took it in to have the tranny rebuilt and when he got it back reverse and overdrive was not working.
So, I've done some searching and what I'm reading is that all that needs to be done is the valve body needs to be taken out and rebuilt with a shift correction kit. Is that correct?
Thanks!

Re: A4LD reverse and overdrive not working
if you just had it rebuilt, why not take it back
Re: A4LD reverse and overdrive not working
Sorry, the guy I bought it from had taken it in a couple of years ago when reverse went out on it.
They supposedly put in a rebuilt tranny. Reverse was still out. He took it back, they supposedly rebuilt his original tranny and put it back in. Now reverse and overdrive are out. That is how it sits now. That's why taking it back isn't an option.
I have found a thread on another bronco forum.

I've also asked a few people that rebuild valve bodies. From what i'm hearing, that's all it's going to take.
You're opinion? I'd really like to hear it!
Thanks

Re: A4LD reverse and overdrive not working
my opinion, change it to a 5spd. that A4LD is not a good one
Re: A4LD reverse and overdrive not working
Somehow I knew you were going to say that and I agree.
I'm planning on making this my daily driver so I'm looking for the quick fix for now.
I do plan on the conversion later. However, time and resources don't allow for that at the time.
So, do you/anyone think the VB rebuild will take care of the problem for now?
I think I've answered my own question, just kinda looking for knowledgeable confirmation.
Thanks

Re: A4LD reverse and overdrive not working
Sorry, I had mis-understood what the guy said.
It's going to end up costing about $80 once I send my core back.

Re: A4LD reverse and overdrive not working
Somebody have a manual with the torque specs on the valve body bolts for an A4LD tranny?
Evidently it's a pretty important spec as a loose or overtightened bolt can cause shift problems/failures.
