'88 Bronco 2 random stutters/misfires

Post by dgl6y6 »

hey everybody i got a tough problem i need some help with.
ive had my 88 B2 for about 5 years now, it was my dads before that so i know that it was taken care of. A few weeks ago i was driving and all of the sudden it felt like i was out of gas. severe misfiring. i quick filled up my gas because i though maybe my fuel pump was about to die and i know it first shows up when low on gas. that helped a little but the problem was still their. since then i have detirmined that it only happens once the engine has warmed up and i am between 1500 and 2500 rpm. at high throttle the problem goes away. this made me think it was a computer problem and swiching between open and closed loop triggered it. i tried 2 different computers with no change. so far i have replaced or checked:
air filter
coolant temp sensor
air charge temp sensor
o2 sensor
cap and rotor
plugs and wires
tps
ignition coil
vacum hoses
pcv
iac (also cleaned while i had it off)

checked all connections for bare wires.
fuel pressure checked out ok
ran sea foam though tank and intake
only the pcv and the o2 sensor made any difference. the problem is much better now but i know that something is still wrong. its drivable but around 2000 rpm i feel it cut out for just an instant. it does it several times before i get to 4th gear then i seem to be ok( maybe i just cant feel it because im in 4th)
its not running rich and doesnt seem to have lost power other than when it jerks.
im thinking about taking off the fuel pressure regulator and running sea foam through the fuel rail to really clean the injectors but not sure if that is safe. can anybody shed some light on this for me?

btw check out my bronco dominating over a jeep cherokee. (excuse jeepboys terrible camerawork while i was driving)

NVM i figured it out. a spark plug wire boot was touching the exhaust manifold. i guess i replaced the plug wires before i had the problem. but that was def it, it was grounding out once the manifold heated up and the cracks in the plug wire expanded.
i feel really dumb.
