transmission swap
I would like to know if I can use a 88 B2 transmission in a 90 B2? Both have a 2.9 motor.

Re: transmission swap
sorry. I failed to say they are both automatics. When I talk them they tell 88, 89 and 90's all have different numbers and yet they both are A4LD. So how much difference is there.

Re: transmission swap
i assume you have both trannys so you can look at them. the 88 tranny will bolt in the 90. look to see how many elect .connectors they have. this one is from a 85, it has one solenoid . sometime in 88 they changed to the dual solenoid versions

Re: transmission swap
the dealer doesnt know what fits what. there gonna have different numbers cause there different years
Re: transmission swap
both trannys are still in the truck so I will have to take a look. So you are saying everything should bolt up except for possibly the elec. connectors may be different. I know the linkage is different because the 88 is on the floor and the 90 is on the column.

Re: transmission swap
right. the 90 is gonna have dual solenoids, the 88 may or may not. another thing to look at is the shift arm on the tranny. i know on C4/C6's theres a difference in them if it is a floor/column shift.
Re: transmission swap
are the linkage interchangeable and if the 88 has only one solenoid will it still work?

Re: transmission swap
if the 88 has one, that one can be hooked to a switch to control the lockup. im gonna do that with mine.
i would use the floor shifter
i would use the floor shifter
