87 bronco II Randomly does not go into gear???

Post by broncomom »

Our*new* to us bronco was doing just fine, then at a red light it just would not go into gear.

Gears would not catch. Pushed to parking lot and then about an hour later went back and it worked just fine??? Any ideas what causes this and how to fix this problem??

ps...also need suggestions on starter relay that shorts out...starts when it wants too...replace? or is there an easy fix.

thanks in advance

like what was already sugested, make sure the clutch resevior is full. if thats not the problem get under the truck with someone in the cab and have push the clutch pedal while your watching the clutch itself ( warning wear some kind of glasses) you may have a external slave cylinder or internal, either way make sure the clutch is retracting off of the fly wheel. if its not then the slave or master cylinder for the clutch is bad, if it is retracting and staying retracted as long as the clutch pedal is depressed then you probably need a clutch.

start relay shorting- replace it, its only about$10 and takes about 10 minutes to change.
