Idle problem

Post by sgt4089 »

I have a 1986 B2, 2.9. When you start it, the idle is high like it should, then it comes down like it should after it is warm. When you drive it, or give it gas, the idle stays high. Almost like the cable is sticking but it is not. The idle will stay around 1000. If you shut the B2 off and re test it, it will idle where it should, until you hit the gas again. Can anybody give me some ideas on what could be causing this?

Hey sarge,

That sounds like an IAC Problem.
(IAC) = Idle Air Control.
a cylindrical object mounted on the side of the upper intake. It gets gummy and starts to stick. I got some info on it here some where I just gotta find it.

Maybe someone reading this has the cleaning instructions and can upload or post them. There
are some tricks to it but it isn't rocket science.
