up untill now i've only dealt with fuel injection, but its pretty damn obvious that something is wrong here. When i bought this rig the guy claimed he had no idea about this when i pointed it out to him, it helped with the barganing power a little.

Please tell me this isn't common  I guess its a good reason to do the Bolt in mustang II mod with duraspark

I'm also curious if i have the duraspark conversion already; can you please tell me if so based on the subject pics below.
excuse the ignorance i'm about 1 week into the broncoII carbed world of the 84's.

Distributer, larger than your average; and i know the durasparks bring on a larger distributer

I have never seen a carb broken like that. Maybe an air filter that was too big was put on at some point. Then when the hood was closed caused it to snap. Just a wild guess. Or maybe the filter housing was on crooked and over tightened. Who knows.

It looks like you still have the stock ignition.

my guess is on someone whrenching carelessley in that area, or he droped it and installed it like that during the rebuild (2.8l).

I thought it might be stock, the carb has a bunch of electrical crap going to it; most likely the computer controls for the air-fuel mixture. Can i use the msd blaster coil that is currently in there with duraspark? The thing surprisingly idles good when its warm, and seems to have decent power for pushing 38" tall tires. I'm sure its got extreemly low gears, When its cold it will die unless i give it some gas.
