4.0 Ticking

Post by greenmachine89 »

Just bought a '91 Explorer that drove just fine but the other day it began to tick. I have a B2 with a 2.9 and it ticks only when I start it. This 4.0 ticks all the time! Is it low oil pressure, or is there sludge built up? Any ideas on what to add to the oil, do I need to clean out the oil pump, or replace it? Help!

You could start by testing your oil pressure, you can usually get a cheap guage from any parts place for $15-$20.
FORD....no other has so many acronyms.

Yea but my stock gauge says the pressure is good. Unless of course those don't work too well.

So that meens new cam and everything! Might as well go with something for more power. For now how heavy of an oil should I use? 5w 20?I have 10w 30 right now.

No cam change. The softer pushrods and rocker tips will wear out faster.

I sent a guy $!00 for some parts and included were a set of new rockers and pushrods for my ticking 4.0L. Unfortunatly that was nearly a year ago. Haven't heard from the guy in months. :mad2:

That sucks bad! I just talked to the local parts store and push rods are 6.99 each and rocker arms are 21.99 each
