Is my transfer case a gonner?

Thanks everyone for the previous advice. This time I have issues (1990 BII automatic) with my transfer case. It wasn't shifting at all when I pushed the button on the dash. It was stuck in 2H. I took off the electric shift motor and could manually shift to N and 4L. It won't position in 4H. Every other position you could feel it lock in and stop. At the 4h position it feels springy but won't stay. I would appreciate you guys' expert advice. Thanks.
