help with alternators

Post by nrandell »

I have and 86, 2.9l v6 4x4 AT and Autozone.com lists alternators that are 40, 65, and 80 amps. How can I tell how many amps my alternator is putting out? Thanks.

Well, if you need an altenator right now the output is 0 amps

the 40 65 and 80 amp alts are all in the same case
so if it were me I would swap in the 80 amper

So If I were to upgrade to an 80A alternator, should also change the wiring and the voltage regulator? Thanks.

on late 86s
regulator is internal
wireing is the same

but replace the power outlet plug and use a lot of Dielectric Grease

on early 86s same regulator same wireing but between the two
two different alternators
