I just got a 1990 Bronco II, it has some issues. Once I repaired the gas lines and got the throttle cable to move freely again, I tried the pushbutton 4wheel drive. No indicator lights come on, it does not engage and I can hear clicking coming from the lil' black box behind the kickpanel behind the drivers seat. This "black box" has a switch (reset maybe?) and a red LED light that comes on when you press the pushbutton switch on it. NOTE: black box has the name "United Technologies Automotive"' on its face. In short, what is this black box, is the button on it in fact a reset and why would it click only when pressing the 4 wheel drive engagement on the dash?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, this is my first Ford, I haven't a clue on some of the Ford controls.
Thanks

Got it up & runnin'
The black box behind the drivers seat turned out to be the 4x4 controller. It was fine, the motor on the T-case was siezed up, I disassembled, cleaned & reassembled and works fine now. Thanks for the tip though. Great lil' truck for tooling around my place. Am wondering though, I've read a number of articles about welding the spider gears. Is this a viable option for POSI? I am only driving this POS on dirt/mud, so I think it would be easier on the "tire scuff" issue when welding the gears, but I'm no expert...any advice?

Welding the spider gears does work good. It does make it a little harder to steer. I only broke one axle and that is because I left the ground with all fours and landed back down on the one axle first. Make sure to take the carrier out before you start to weld.
