There is a unused connector under the hood that you have to use a couple of jumper wires on with a analog volt meter. You count the sweeps of the needle to get the codes. I don't have them with me but they are usually in your repair manual.

you can pick up a code reader from most parts stores for around $40.00 or go here...

jumper and read the flashes on the check engine light. it should flash codes similar to a code reader would do with the LED light.

drive your truck to Autozone and they will pull the codes for free...
71 Bronco - twin sticked, full width, 2" lift, wristed arm, lots of rust...

i tried that but they told me they couldnt go back that far.....the man at autozone never actually walked outside to see if it would plug in but he said it wouldnt work....
