nail hole in oil filter

Post by clem »

Just got finished doing some oil changes and remembered a little trick, punch a hole in the oil filter (hammer and nail) before removing the filter lets it drain, so you don't get oil down your elbow! :redneck:

Good tip, another is use aluminum foil to direct the oil if needed to keep stuff clean. On my motorcycle the oil filter is above the header so if I don't use foil I have a huge mess.

We used to punch a hole in the oil filters on the garbage trucks we changed oil on. That was a Ton of oil in those filters. Way easier!

Let me add 1 more oil filter tip.
Take a small gallon size trash bag and wrap it over the filter, unscrew the filter and the oil spillage runs into the trash bag.
