What kind of internet connection do you have?

Post by Nobody »

So my 1 year commitment is up with Verizon DSL, and now Cable is available.

Verizon DSL speeds are 768/128 $35mo

Earthlink/Comcast is supposed to be >3M/384 or 1.5M/256 which would speed the website up a tad ;) $45-49

So what kind of internet do y'all have?

Anyone have cable? Has it been reliable? I'm specifically interested in anyone with earthlink cable. Did you have to pay for installation? PPPoE? Lease/own modem?

My DSL has been rock stable for years now, so I'm a bit hesitent to try something new.

I have Comcast cable at work, nothing at home. It has been very reliable. We have had it for 18mo - 2yrs. Speed doesn't seem to be a problem.

Matt you know what I have... I love it still and with the city signing up 1000s of people the speed is only down to about 7.5mb/sec during the day. The great part is that its also 7.5mb/sec upload as well...

I do have friends and family with cable and they really like the speed and reliability of it. My brother says he get about 3mb at nights and a little slower during the day. Not too bad..

I called today, and Cable isn't available even though they called me and said it was

So it looks like it's DSL for awhile longer.

Sorry you can't get Cable 'net service.

To answer your first post, yes I find it very reliable, and it's pretty fast.

I talked to a friend yesterday, and he told me about a free speed upgrade with verizon. All you have to do is ask. 1.5Mbps downstream.

Unfortunately, faster downstream won't make the website any faster. I asked for faster upstream too, but I doubt I'll get that for free.

Well if nothing else, faster download will be great for your own web surfing. As far as the upload, hopefully they will have something to help out.

Talked to verizon today, and I got a June 8th confirmation for a speed upgrade to 1.5MB/384

That's 3x faster that what we have now. Should make the website significantly faster......
