High revving motor

Post by ran429 »

I cant seem to figure out why my engine wont idle down .
I hooked up the ford reader to the wires & it gave me Codes : 23 / 54 / 68 / 10 .
I cant find the manual that goes with this reader , could someone help me out ?
I checked the wire connection under the manifold & its still connected , nothing seems to be out of order on the carb or throttle cable & linkage .

It just started happening yesterday - im stumped .

first off we need to know what motor we are talking about. I would try cleaning the throtle body first then clean the IAC valve. also look ofr vacume leaks.....they will do that.

Don't think so. Check the throttle linkage for binding. Also check the idle speed control(the cylinoid on the left side of the carb. Make sure it's not holding the throttle wide open.

Mine did that at a gas station one morning. Some how the brake booster vacuum hose got caught under the back side of the throttle linkage and would not let it return to idle postiton. May be that simple.
Can't think of anything witty, intelligent, or cool to say...guess I'm just stupid.

I will go out & take A look at it . Thanks .
Hope this works , I thought it would be the plug under the drivers side manifold . But its hooked up all nice & tight .
Hope its simple .

The electric module that pushes on the throttle while warming up is shot . It is stuck wide open , i will have to get a new one .
Meanwhile I just backed it off far enough so the wife can drive it & not eat up the fuel & Brakes .
