1984 ford bronco II 2.8 Carburetor

Post by broncodave93baby »

Just bought a 84 Bronco II automatic. Bought it as a project to work on . I been driving it lately and it has died on me 2-3 times on the road while im only in traffic or when im stuck at a train stop light. After the truck dies on the road, i wait 30 minutes and not touch anything and it starts right up without me even getting a tow truck. Anybody knows why this 1984 ford bronco II does this and tell me what parts to replace ?

Sounds a lot like a failing ignition module.

Thanks. So far I replaced the ignition coil and the starter. I hope the ignition module solves the problem because I just spent a lot of big bucks on new parts including the ignition control module and etc.

Listed new parts I bought:
Distributor cap
Ignition Control module
Ignition starter switch
Spark wire set and plugs
Fuel filter
Fuel Pump inertia switch

I'm going to install all these parts this week and I hope it stays running and doesn't shut off on me on the road. I even bought it a new carburetor but I had a mechanic check her out and he told me it will be hard to rewire it because my wires are brittle. Is that true? I haven't bought it yet a new fuel pump either.

You may want to check in to doing the Duraspark swap. Uses a different carb and eliminates much of the wiring issues.

Your doing a motor swap to avoid carb issues??? Thats rather extreme.Lol

The 2.8 is a great engine if you do the Duraspark conversion, thats costs about $500usd and it deletes all the polution control and troublesome electronics including the computer and ignition module. It only takes a few hours to do and the end result is a very simple trouble free system.

Well I appreciate your feedback. I have replaced the battery, spark plugs, wires, rotor cap , rotor, ignition control module, starter, starter solenoid. It keeps dying on me on the road after 20 -30 minutes and starts right back it. I'm thinking going your route. https://therangerstation.com/tech_libra ... park.shtml

is this what your talking about?

Ya thats it... basically its the same electronic ignition that Ford used in the late 70s, its very dependable and super simple to work on later on if need be.

I converted one of my B2s about 10 years ago and it hasnt missed a beat since... the body has rusted away and looks like crap so I put a snowplow on it about 6 years ago and it starts in 40 below weather. There is also a noticable improvement in HP once its converted. I liked it enough that I have already bought all the parts to do another one of my B2s... complete kit including carburator was about $700 cad.

It's a fairly easy swap and the headaches will be few and far between. Did mine and never looked back...….

I have 1984 B2. It ran like crap. I rebuilt the motor. I went to the dura spark and new carb. Runs great. Starts everything.
