Just for starters, this is for OFF-ROAD use only....

Here's the story;

My Bronco II has a smog pump that has been recently making a LOT of noise; noisier every few days... I've been searching local junkyards for a smog pump, but NONE had any (I live in Colorado, and there's limited junkyards in the mountains)..

SO:

I've heard of the smog pump delete, where you basically just get the same belt that runs the power steering pump-- take off the smog pump-- and just run a shorter belt.. Re-connect the hoses that were going to the smog pump, to each other, so the air still circulates.

I removed my smog pump, my belts fit perfectly... But when I try starting my truck, I get an 'EMISSIONS' light on the dash, and the engine just does a single 'click.'

What did I do wrong?

I thought this was a simple process.

If I can't get this sorted out by Monday, I lose my job.

Thank you everyone, I REALLY need some input and if anyone is in the area of Durango CO, I'd be willing to pay $50/hr to get this sorted out...

My phone number is (847) 868 6046.

If someone can CALL and help troubleshoot it, I'll paypal you a generous donation.

From the left to the right.. Smog pump, and two adapters that were on the line. I disconnected a single line (looked like a wire, but was hollow) from the center piece.

Here is a photo of it:

HERE is what the system now looks like; it is IDENTICAL to one that I saw on a few other cars... Can't figure out what is wrong, here.

The emmision light is turned on every 60k by a relay behind the glove box, it can be unplugged, it wont be the cause of the no start problem tho, that is most likely a bad electrical connection or weak battery.

Seems like should be a way to clear-reset this issue code. Any thoughts?

There is a sequence of turning the ignition on/off a couple times to reset the emmision light but I only did that once on my first B2 many years ago, but I cant recall exactly how it went, since then Ive just been disconnecting the switch behind the glovebox, probably found the sequence on google originally.

The switch behind the glovebox is not a sensor connected to anything on the engine, it just turns on the emmisions dash light after x amount of time to suggest you have all the emmisions equipment checked at the dealer,

It worked!! To rest the emissions sensor and turn off the "emiss" light on dashboard. All you need is a small Phillips screwdriver. Easy ImageImageImageImageImageImage
Push inwards on both sides of glovebox when it is open. This releases the box to fold down to gain access to sensor behind the glovebox. Remove the little sticker marked "reset". Insert screwdriver and push upward lightly. Very slight feel of switch activated. Hold in this position and turn key to "power on - engine off" position.". Continue holding the screw driver depressing the sensor switch for 5-10 secs. The emission light on dashboard will turn off.
