yeah definitely a good call on the drive shaft. I replaced mine with a u joint style and it took out a lot of the slack. You might look at the wheel bearings too. If they get real bad they can vibrate like that. the tip off is that the vibration changes as the weight shift on and off of the bad bearing. try swerving the car side to side a little bit to see if the noise changes. Most types of bearings will get quieter as you increase the load on them. since the rear axle bearings arent tapered they made react differently.
