Engine swap compatibility

There's a 98 Ranger that someone is parting out on CL in my area. They are wanting to part it out, so I'm trying to trade him a bunch of electronics I have laying around for the motor and thew hole wire harness.
If it's either a 2.9 or 4.0, will it still bolt up to my 5spd (4spd w/ OD) trans in my 85 Bronco II? Manual everything, has the 2.8l in it right now.
If the donor truck has an auto, I should only need to get a manual ECU right? I'd like to keep my trans, since the truck oinly has 122k on it.
