Post by Lark21 »

I am looking for some answers on the automatic 4x4 on my bronco II. It seems to work when it wants and not when i want it to. I was wondering if i could by pass the push buttons and just add a toggle switch or something? Please any info will help. Thank You

I am having the same problem but I have the 87' Eddie Bauer edition. I don't lik ethe tocuh drive feature, I would rather have the lever on the floor. The lights on the touch drive will light up, but all i hear is grinding coming from the left front hub. It has the automatic locking hubs too. I've tried pulling it off to see what was happening but with no luck. Anyone know what to do? would putting regular locking hubs on help? or do I have to change a whole bunch of otehr stuff too if I do that?

Those automatic hubs are notorious for not working. Get ahold of a set manual locking hubs and you should be good to go. With the buttons inside there is a motor on the t-case that locks the 4wd in and out so if no 4wd after the hubs looks like a new motor is needed.

Thanks, I will try that, so I don't have to put anything else on if I only change the hubs to manual locking?

If you get ahold of the manual hubs you will need the two nuts and washer that come with. The auto hubs have a different washer setup that connects it to the hub. Warn sells the conversion nuts. Or you could just get then off of a rig with the manual hubs. But if you have a dana 28 you will need dana 28 parts and if you have dana 35... well you know what i'm talking about

I know a junk yard that has the hubs, but all the vehicles in th eyard have had their wheels taken off and I'm not sure if the washer and nuts would still be on it. Honestly, I don't know what Dana axle is on it. Is there a way to tell without ripping it apart. I don't have the owners manual for it just the shop manual.

I really doubt it was changed, the guy who I bought it from went into a nursing home just recently and I don't think he was a wheeler. What was the actual product name for the converssion kit that Warn sells, I looked it up and theres about 15 different hub parts.

Ok, well I put on the manual hubs, and they're working!!! thank god, i was sick and tired of getting stuck in the simpliest places. I think I put the lock nuts and washers on correctly, I'm not entirely sure. There wasn't a diagram in my repair manual and they couldn't pull up and image at Advanced auto. If someone has a diagram of it, that would be helpful just to make sure its on there right before I go and ruin something. Thanks!
