Frame question...

Post by DBrown »

some of you know I have been working on a 76 4x4 Frame for my old tow rig. well, I was wanting some opinions on a frame decision I am trying to make on the rear.

I am wanting to pull the rear forward arount ~22" but my problem is the frame looks like this:
I I
/ \
I I

I am thinking of cutting the top and bottom of the C on the frame and bending it straight then welding the top and bottom back up and plating it. along with this would be cutting the factory cross members to shorten them and bolt back in place.

I only see two things that I am going to have to deal with and that is moving the gas tank, which I will have to do anyway and I will have to build a bed which I intend to do also with moving the rear forward that much.

I guess my qusetion is do yall think the frame after I do this is going to hold up to some twisting when I start flexing the suspension?
