personally i never owned a scout, i have however owned jeeps, dodges, 4 runners, and a land rover, but i truly like the ability Of the B II even in its stoock mode the BII is a truly awesome 4x4 ......... and with the no more than a motor upgrade to a 4.0 and a lift kit with good tires, it is capable of some of the roughest terrains......

Scout II's are pretty bad ass and some come with dana 44's front and rear. They have v8's even though they are heavy i think they are close to a thousnd pounds!!! But they are built like tractors so you can beat on them pretty good. If your bronco is carbed i would go with the scout if yours is fuel injected it it will be hard to tell.

hmmmm....... i though the scout II came stock with a 4 cylinder actually with a choice between 2 different 4 cylinders, that were in comparison to the HP of a stock BII 2.8 or 2.9 motor, and i say that because i was told there had to be modifications to the firewall and frame for the v8 to be installed ........ but as i said i never owned a Scout II ....... so maybe i am mistaken and perhaps i am thinking of something else... but your right they did come with a 44 front and rear.......

800 series Scouts came with 4 cyl motors. They were also smaller than a Scout II. I would buy the Scout, cause they are more capable wheelers and like Rockcrawler said they are tuff.

Well I disagree with everybody. Buy what you like in my opinion though both vehicles are going to need to be built to be truly decent wheelers. They both have there advantages and disadvantages. Personally I do feel that a Stock Bronco II is a better wheeler then a Stock Scout II but like all rigs they both need improvement upon. Both could use stronger axles, better suspension, deeper gears, and lockers. The Scout could definitely use FI but I'd probably slap a truck Avenger Carb on it for the simplicity of it all. The Bronco II could use a bigger engine but it's not entirely necessary. yada yada you get my point. Again buy what you like. Thats what I do.

I'd have to go with a Bronco II. I don't really like scouts. Sure they have Dana 44's and V8's, but they also weigh a lot more than a BII, so strength is relative. Bronco II's also have all the creature comforts and parts are easy to find.

yeah they all have there ups and downs. Like i said before if you have fuel injection go with the bronco II because they are great little rigs.

Yea d44 and the 304 v8 were options on scout 11.
I have owned both and the both have their place,
but I personally like the b2 better.

My Grandfather used to have one with a slant 4. Looked like a V8 that had been chopped down the middle. Kinda weird.

you are right it is a half a 304
152 ci four is literally a 304 with one head taken off and replaced with a plate of thick sheet metal
