running gear from 1995 exporer sport

Post by Leaky14 »

Hey Guys,
I am still researching my v8 swap and found a 1995 explorer sport 4.0 that I can get very cheap. Will the front and rear ends work for me with the v8? I am not sure what is under the 95 and its about an hour away to go take a look at. Is it worth my time to go check it out?Would be buying the thing complete.

Thanks

I think the 95 is the last year of TTB, so yes it'll work fine. Why not use the 4.0 too? You'll be happier than with the v8 unless you are mudbogging it

I have thought of usuing the 4.0 How much more power does it have?If Iam gonna do all this I want more power....lol. But the 4.0 has 175k on it so I dont think I would use it.

Output was 160 hp (119 kW) and 225 ft·lbf (305 N·m). Though there is some variation, typically 155 hp is quoted as horsepower for 1990-92 applications.
I swapped one in that had 140k on it in place of a 2.9 with less than 15k on it. Power level is about 30% better, would be even more I bet if I rebuilt the engine.

I think I will do the v8......lol . I am looking at a remanufactured 302 HO.
So if I get the running gear under My b2 from the 95 Eploder I will be a couple of steps closer to the engine swap.I also found a 1988 F150 with a 4 speed granny tranny and transfer case.....would it be possible to use these?

with the v8, yes easy to do. Not sure what you'll do for clutch setup but I am near positive that there is a hydraulic bell housing that the tranny will fit.

Well, I didn't give a damn, but my ideas and goals have again changed. After shoulder surgery I may just get all this pain behind me and be able to ride again.

95 would be the first year for the SLA front axle. TTB was 91-94. The rear should work fine though. May even have disc brakes if you want to mess with rigging up the parking brake.

if yo want to use the 4 speed which is most likely the np435.you have to find a mid 80s six cylinder or small block ford aluminum bellhousing which has the externally mounted slave cylinder that your factory b2 line will mate to.i am running that setup with a 205 tcase right now works great :)
