Re: replacing rear shocks

Well that sounds easy enough. The truck doesn't have to be on a jack or jack stands for the shock or leaf replacement does it? To answer your question, no the truck does not need to be on jack stands to change the shocks, but yes it does to change the springs. To be honest, if you need to ask for a...

Re: Back bumpers for a 1988 B2

If your old bumpers are straight, sand or sandblast them and paint them. I sanded my chrome bumpers with a da sander and I think 80 grit paper. Painted with rustoleum, semi-gloss black. Held up very well, even my wife backing into a garage door :) And if you do mess them up, touch is just a spray ca...

Re: 2 wheel drive with a stock transfer case????

Not sure about your area but around here, if you have the means/place to do it, the cheapest solution is to buy a complete parts truck. Something that is non operational like a blown engine or trans, take the parts you want and sell the rest for scrap. In that case you could swap out the rear axle i...

Re: 302 swap for my bII

Not sure what trans you even have but there is no trans that was used behind the 2.9 that can handle even a stock 302, even if you did figure out a way to hook it up.

Re: 4.0 swap questions

An A4LD automatic is the same transmission whether it be behind a 2.9 or 4.0. Same power capacity no different. So your statement here is just total garbage. I don't see any part of it that's correct. Not to get on your case but without someone like Dave to correct you, a newbie goes off thinking h...

Re: windshield washer

Have any extra wire? Run a wire from the positive terminal on the battery over to the pump and see if it runs. The pump also needs to be grounded. FWIW, a test light is cheap.

Re: 2 wheel drive with a stock transfer case????

Not to hard at all really. Make sure you get a manual shift transfer case though, you don't want to deal with trying to wire in the electric shift controls.

Re: 4.0 swap questions

You can't use the 2.9 harness on a 4.0, you need the harness that came with the donor engine. Besides the engine you'll need the computer, bigger radiator from a 4.0 as well as a trans from a 4.0. The 4.0 will bolt up to the 2.9 trans and work but isn't made to handle the power. Your best bet is to ...

Re: need help wit 4.0

From a 2.9 to a 4.0 is mostly wiring changes but you also need to use a 4.0 trans.

Re: 4.0 in ranger help plz

You need to use a 4.0 trans with the engine. Putting in the engine is the easy part, wiring is a little more difficult. No need for a body lift.

Re: Tons of front wheel friction in 4wd

decrease your gas mileage and makes parts wear out faster?
Both of those are true statements but the questions is "how much". IMHO it's not enough to really worry about, leave them locked for the winter unless you're planning a very long highway trip on dry roads.

Re: Rear brakes don't work

wonder where I can get short brake line like that? When I did mine I ran a new line from the master cylinder all the way back to the axle, new hose and steels lines on the axle. I also replaced wheel cylinders, shoes, drums, etc. You can get steel line in various lengths at any auto parts store. He...
