I would just swap like t-cases to get you on the road. this is a fairly easy job and the down time is minamal. Then if you want a spare, you can tear into the old one. More then likely you will have to split the case. Since you are that far, might as well replace the other worn out parts. This could...

If the 84' has an EEC IV dist. then there is alot of difference. EEC IV dist doesn't have a vacuum or mechanical advance. this was all done with the computer. I have just set the advance at about 36 degrees TDC at idle and this seemed to work ok though out the running range. This is a popular settin...

The advantage of a higher amp alternator is that you can run more accessories and the alt will stay up will the demand. Such as 100 lights, winches, stereos, etc. If you run these items that draw alot of juice they will drain your battery pretty good. I used to a big bass amp that would dim the head...

With proper tuning the stock 2.8 with the EEC IV dist. would rev to atleast 6200-6300 rpm before the rev limiter kicked in. One thing with these motors is that they are solid lifter cam motors and like to have their valves adjusted every twelve month or 12,000 miles. Since I was hard on my engines, ...

I haven't torn into a bottem end. Most of the engines I used were out of already running rigs.(they were cheaper than a rebuild) I only had one fail in the top end due to lack of oil. But for 200 bucks I got my moneys worth out of beating the truck up and managed to run it home while it started to l...

I found a Mallory unilight dist for my 85. I didn't notice any super horsepower gains but the engine ran smoother and there wasn't a rev limiter. Mine would rev up to 7200 rpm pretty consistantly in the lower gears. There wasn't enough HP to do it in the 4th and 5th gears. Try looking at the Mallory...

The 1984 used a brass radiator with clamp mounts that bolted on from the core support. The 85 and up used a aluminum and plastic radiator with two posts that poked through the bottom of the core support into rubber grommets. The top bolted horizontally into the back side of the core support. The alu...
