Re: hello, 89 broncoII i just bought it i have a few questions
There's NO rack and pinion on these, get your front end checked by a mechanic if you don't know what your looking for.

Re: 87 Bronco II 2.9L Shuts off while driving
O.K can you pull codes? I would also check for spark after it dies. I would be looking at the coil very closely. I don't know how you clean a coil but you can check the resistance, even though when they heat up sometimes they fail. Please let us know if you figure this out. - Jeff

Check the radius arm bushings and the center bushing on the twin I beam system, I'm not sure what the proper name is, but it holds one of the diff sections in place. I would get a good mechanic to go over the front end of any project I get. The front end keeps you on the road, get it checked! -Jeff

Re: 89 Bronco II tranny--to fulsh or not to flush
Flush and filter, people who say it was the flush and filter that caused the problem don't realize that it was on it's way out anyway! I say do it, but drive like you have an egg under your foot (not hard boiled) as these transmissions are not all that strong, just my opinion. -Jeff

Re: Lots of smoking :/
I was thinking oil off the valve cover gasket. Is the smoke blue and stink? That's oil. I read your other posts, the brownish thing that gets hot is your exhaust manifold it gets real hot!!! If oil drips on this it will smoke like nobody's business.

Re: valve cover gasket vs head gasket
All you need to do the valve gaskets is a socket and a ratchet with an extension, remove some crap out of the way, you CAN do it, I believe. :D The thermostat housing is where the top rad hose goes, just follow the hose to the block and you should see a dome shaped thing the hose goes on, that's it....

Re: valve cover gasket vs head gasket
Your valve cover is the thing you put oil in, the head is under that it houses the valves, you can degrease the engine with some " off the shelf '' degreaser, then do the valve gaskets yourself. If you have a auto tranny you got two lines that go to the rad to cool the trans oil, these sometime...

fuel pump fuse or relay, also make sure everyting is grounded well. The neutral saftey switch prevents you from starting in drive or reverse. Just my two cents. -Jeff

Re: 1990 Bronco ii wont start
Do a general tune up, there is nothing lost in doing that, plugs, cap and button. If that doesn't do it go after the ignition module. If you have a tach and it doesn't move when you turn it over I think that is a sure sign of an ignition module problem, so I'm told. Good luck -Jeff
