Re: 5.0 Install

If your thinking it's a voltage issue, take a Digital Volt meter and test the system. If you believe it's a ground issue take the - lead of the DVM and place it on the battery post ground, then take the + lead and place it on the starter motor case. With the Meter set at a setting that will place 12...

Re: bronco II cuts out alot

You have replaced the filter on the L/S frame rail, correct? Also check to make sure none of the fuel lines are damaged in any way to reduce flow.

Re: Hot wire draining battery

Assuming your audio an all lighting is wire correctly, most of the time it's a diode in the DC charging Alt. To check that circuit w/o meters, unhook the battery ground, then disconnect the large wire to the Alt, then reinstall the battery ground, and wait over night. There will always be a very sma...

Re: 87 2.9 electrical problem....

Don't know, but there is nothing that time an money won't modifiy. We went to trade our 86 B II 5 speed for a new one in 1990. Had to order it and when it came in, it came with auto hubs an motorized transfer case, ( ordered M-hubs, with a floor lever). Needless to say we still to this day own the 8...

Re: 87 2.9 electrical problem....

Disconnect the Sprout. plug, start the engine an set timing to spec. Shut down engine and reinstall plug, computer takes it from there.

The S. plug is just to the rear and below the idle air motor, on the intake man.

Re: Bronco ii A4LD.. Ouch!! Help please

I don't know how deep your into iron, so the following is a little I've learned over the years, about seals an turning iron. Most transmission front seal issues are from, a transmission bell housing that is not dialed to the engine, or there is a problem with the iron the seal is trying to seal. The...

Re: bronco II cuts out alot

Any time you believe your having fuel pressure issues, hook up your gauge with a long hose and drive the thing down the road. You can place the hood on the safety latch and run the hose w/o pinching it. If the pressure is anything above 30lb and it's still having the issue it's not a fuel pressure p...

Re: Help diagnosing engine problem

When a part fails there are two things that one has to find, before correcting the issue. The first item found is easy the effect, the harder item to find is the cause. If the cause is not corrected the effect will happen again. Failure analysis is a dying art, and parts stores want it to go away qu...

Re: Heater core

Never seen a H-core eat up that way, but it could happen I guess. If your sure it's an electro issue, just solder a 14 gage wire onto the feed/hot side and ground it back to the engine. I have seen many Cores replaced do to hoses pushed all the way up and leaking in a way it could not be seen, and d...

Re: No Spark I think

Sorry I did not your post before now, as I would have suggested, not replacing the TFI w/o also replacing the Dist Trigger. Pulling the Dist. is required to do this operation, but well worth it in the long run, as any minor issue with the trigger becomes a major issue to the TFI. Glad you have it ru...

Re: if you buy headers what do you do about egr valve?

If your worried about passing an emission test, you'll have to weld the EGR tube back into the r/s header. If no test is required, just remove the pipe, then unhook the Vac hose that pulls the EGR plunger. The other option is remove the EGR and Fab a plate to block the ports. A real neat way is to t...

Re: what's the best lift point for the 2.9L engine?

If it has a std trans, remove the upper intake manifold then use the two bolts(#2 runner) that held the upper to the lower. If you have A/C, an P/S leave those on the bracket that bolt to the front cover an exhaust manifold, and lay the whole thing out of the way. Remove the D/C Alternator, as well....

Re: Help diagnosing engine problem

My '86 'co II 2.9l has been giving me trouble for the last two weeks. I will be cruising along and then the whole vehicle starts bucking/surging, engine runs rough sputtering and if I give it any throttle the RPM's drop and engine dies. Engine temp rises at this time too, sometimes the radiator boi...

Hello all, New guy here. Still have the 86 B-II we bought new. She's a 2.9, 5 speed, 4X4 that has been all over this country, an taught both kids, (re-taught wife as well) to drive. My question is, the transfer case cross member has outer rubber bushings between the member and frame mountin...
