also a partially stopped up fuel filter can affect a motor at idle....... causing irratic idling conditions, and a decrease in fuel milage.

and i know it might sound stupid but change the PCV valve as this too can affect idling conditions on the 2.9 v6...........

ok then my next step would be check the TPS, with key on and motor off the center wire should be reading about 0.9 - 1.0 volts when a meter is attached between it and ground, disconnecting it should affect the motor causing it to die....

well i would have liked to help you on that question but i did the 4.0 swap becasue i knew stuff would bolt up, and i wasnt going to say it would or wouldnt when i didnt have an answer for the question, ask d brown or nobody they should be more familiar with the 302 swaps.

oops sorry that only states the years of 88 - 89 and does not say 87 so might not work on the 87 i am unsure but it might be worth looking at though

personally i think i would crawl under the BII and check the fuel return line to make sure its still connected at the tank, remember your fuel pump pumps more volume than needed to substantiate running the vehicle at high speeds, so a leak there might not be noticeable because of the lines going int...

if unplugging the 02 sensor makes no changes to the way it runs, then you might need to change it.

i would definatly check spark plugs to see if they are tight and i would check to see the condition they are in you might have carbon built up on them and need to change them..... i also forgot to mention your 02 sensor, i have heard some people have unplugged the plug going to it and had a miss lea...

YES, check timing, check the plugs wires, check the distributor cap for cracks or worn contact points inside, and check the rotor button, and change the fuel filter located on the inside of the frame under the drivers door which is covered by a metal plate, and by all means check for vacuum leaks el...

you say a stock 84 BII well then you can be sure the stock plugs used by ford that are fairly inexpensive ....... Autolite brand ....... would be just fine for the application, or if you want to spend more you can buy bosch or the others but if it was good enough for ford to use for it it should be ...
