gas mileage in 84 2.8 EB 4x4

I just bought this EB and cannot seem to get it smogged. The tech has changed out the auto. throttle control device and I replaced the oxygen sensor but it still does not pass here in CA. It only does 13 mpg on mixture of sreet and freeway driving. I am sure it should do much more than that. Yestedr...

Re: 2.8 - 2.9 swap

Hey Ranger Dave, I did consider swapping my 84 2.8 wth a 4.0 but from what I have read and heard over the past couple of days that plan has been scrapped!! lol The next question I have is: how about a 3.0 out of a ranger? Would I need to change anything in the dash for that swap? Meaning hardware ra...

Re: 4.0 falling on its face

Thanks for that. I read on another thread that it makes it a lot easier if you swap the dash and I have left a question there asking why this is suggested. Do you know what that is all about? And have you still got your 84 Bronco dash?

Re: 84 4.0 upgrade

I am also a Bronco II newbie, having just bought a 1984 EB with the 2.8 motor, and I have access to a 4.0 as well but the guy who is willing to do the swap wants me to provide the parts that will be necessary. He has the 4.0 in a truck now and can use the computer, wiring looms and fuel rail from th...

Re: 4.0 falling on its face

Sorry I cannot help you but I have a quesiton for you. I have an 84 with a bad engine and I have been offered what he says is a good 4.0 to swap it out. He also said he would do the job for me but wants me to supply whatever is needed fror the change. I am thinking it will need motor mounts, all the...

Re: front diff

I have attempted to attach a photo of my door label to this post but I really don't know what I am doing in that regard, so it may not get there lol. My label most definitely has D42 for the axle type. And I have no label attached to the rear of the front diff.

Re: front diff

yeah that would be good if the title mentioned anything about 4x4 or 2x4 but it doesn't. The label on the driver's door has for axle 'D42' if anyone knows what that means. It was a one owner vehicle and the original title [pink slip] is just a very small piece of paper nothing like they are now. Tha...

Re: front diff

Thanks a bunch Ray. There were no numbers there that helped me identify my diff but it is clear that I have a Dana 28 'cause I have a twelve bolt cover plate on the front of mine. The 35 has a ten bolt plate. Strange that that whole assembly is cleaner and a different color than the other undercarri...

front diff

I have just bought a 1984 Bronco 2 and it looks like the whole front end [running gear] has been replaced at some time. The numbers on the diff housing are as follows: 004 to the far left as you look from the front. Then a little further along are these numbers: P 261 3 1 40977 Does this register wi...

Fuel mixture

Just bought a 1984 Eddie Bower with 60,000 original miles but it is running VERY rich and uses gas like my 351M in my old 1978 XLT Ranger 4x4 truck. It will not pass a smog as yet and the techo at the station does not know what to do!! Could it be the oxygen sensor? He has adjusted the carby for mix...
